The only description of the object itself, and a contemporary confirmation of a year the archive had lost.
Thirty-five years of award notices, and this is the only sentence that describes the thing being awarded. It is solid silver. It was offered in the flower show's first years — which fits 1912, the year the club gave it, four years before the show's own numbering starts in the accounts of the 1920s.
And it settles a recovery. Mrs. E. P. Mahaffey's 1926 win came to this archive from a 1951 retrospective, in a year Historic Oregon Newspapers does not hold and no original survives to check. Here is a contemporary page, printed the following summer, saying she holds it. The weekday test had already shown the retrospective's date was sound; this confirms its content.
The last clause is the club's own condition, still in force fifteen years on: the cup was to become the property of anyone who won it three seasons running, and nobody ever did. It kept travelling until at least 1947.
From the source
The solid silver trophy cup offered during the first years of the flower show by the Emblem club for the most artistic arrangement of flowers, is now held by Mrs. E. P. Mahaffey. Many Bend people have held this cup at various times, a few have held it for two years in succession but no one has held it for three years in succession.
