      "Thirty-five years of award notices, and this is the only sentence that describes the thing being awarded. It is solid silver. It was offered in the flower show's first years — which fits 1912, the year the club gave it, four years before the show's own numbering starts in the accounts of the 1920s.",
      "And it settles a recovery. Mrs. E. P. Mahaffey's 1926 win came to this archive from a 1951 retrospective, in a year Historic Oregon Newspapers does not hold and no original survives to check. Here is a contemporary page, printed the following summer, saying she holds it. The weekday test had already shown the retrospective's date was sound; this confirms its content.",
