One line in a column of comings and goings, and the first of four records about a single trip to Portland.

A local-news paragraph between a man moving to Salem and a property owner arriving from Seattle. J. P. Keyes was host; the Emblem Club sang at the Mountain View.

It is the opening of a sequence the archive can now follow end to end. A fortnight later the club dined at the same hotel with Cheney down from Seattle and rehearsed “songs to be used on the club’s excursion to Portland on May 28”. On 28 May the Bulletin printed the sixteen men who went. Thirty years afterwards its retrospective column reprinted that list, which is how this project found it.

Four notices, one excursion, and a song list nobody has. Keyes was one of the sixteen.
