A second rehearsal at the Mountain View, with Cheney down from Seattle, a fortnight before the club went to Portland.
Two sentences in the local column, and they say what the club took seriously. Cheney came down from Seattle for a dinner whose business was rehearsing the songs for a railway excursion a fortnight away.
The singing is not incidental to this club. Its first annual banquet reused the songs from the previous September’s Seattle Railroad Excursion banquet; the Portland Ad men were met with a band; in 1916 the Oregonian gave a whole column to a “bazoo band” of more than thirty pieces playing a hundred numbers at a Hoo-Hoo banquet. A club that promotes a town by singing at it rehearses.
On 28 May sixteen men left for Portland. The songs themselves have not been found: the song book pictured by the museum in 2020 is one of the objects this project is still looking for.
