Not an event. A standing appointment, printed in the week's calendar like the trains.
The Bulletin printed a calendar of the week’s meetings, a day at a time — a dance at Tumalo and the Eastern Star on Monday, the Parent-Teacher Association and the Modern Woodmen on Tuesday, the Masons and the Carpenters and Joiners on Thursday. Wednesday is set apart below, because of where the militia company met.
Everything else in this archive about the clubhouse is an occasion — a banquet, a dance, an initiation, a governor. This is the opposite, and more telling for it. The town’s militia company had a standing weekly slot in the Emblem Club’s room, listed beside the lodges as a matter of routine, and the club is named in the calendar as a place rather than as a body.
In August the same company met there about army equipment, “because of the withdrawal of troops for service in Europe”.
