The militia's standing Wednesday slot turns into a war meeting.

The company already met in this room every Wednesday at a quarter to eight. Here the routine slot becomes something else: a town two thousand miles from a coast, arming its home guard in the club’s hall because the regular army had gone.

The paper says “togs”, not uniforms, and the whole of it is one paragraph rather than the two pieces this record used to carry.
