The same roundel on Visit Bend, in blue and gold
Visit Bend · April 2, 2002
In the story: 6. The emblem outlives the club, 1930–2010.
The Chamber’s bureau carried the same device onto its own site, in the colours the club chose in 1912.
This is the clearest rendering of the device we have from the period: a gold ring, BEND in tall narrow letters filling it, on deep blue, above the bureau’s name, in a header 601 pixels wide.
The record used to say the Chamber’s bureau had carried the device onto its own site, and read that off the device. The page under the header says it twice over. The address at its head — 63085 N. Highway 97, and the telephone number with it — is exactly what the Chamber printed under “VISITOR & CONVENTION BUREAU” on its own site eight months earlier, in August 2001. And the welcome paragraph is a light rewrite of the Chamber page’s: “the outdoor recreation capitol of Oregon, with snow-capped peaks dominating the skyline” became “the outdoor recreational playground of Oregon”, and both give Bend twelve inches of precipitation a year on “the sunny side of Oregon”.
So the same body moved to its own domain and took its roundel with it. That is the continuity the record wanted, and it is now evidence rather than an inference from a drawing.
Blue and gold were the Emblem Club’s colours, recorded in the Bulletin in July 1912. Ninety years later a tourism bureau is using a BEND roundel in the same two colours. It is a striking continuity and it is only that — nothing in the record yet explains how the device travelled from 1922 to 2001, and nothing here touches that question.
The page is filed with its hash under archive/online-research/2026-09-15-visitbend-2002/.
The colours are worth a sentence. The Emblem Club’s own colours were blue and gold: its booth at Seattle’s Potlatch in July 1912 was “decorated throughout with blue and gold, the colors of the Emblem Club”, and the emblem filled the back of it as an electric transparency in the same two. This drawing is in blue and gold too. Nothing in this archive joins them — no chain of files, no brief, no statement by anybody who drew it — and the resemblance is recorded here as a resemblance.

Measured
The bureau roundel, the notched construction. Narrow letters, a notched E and a notched B at the same height, an arched third letter, and rounded corners.
Read at low confidence from 37 px of letter.
Not measured. The roundel is about 35 px across at the left of the filed 2002 page header, and the detector cannot even fit a circle to it. Excluding a drawing is itself a finding, so it is recorded rather than estimated.
