The City’s landscape mark, 2002
City of Bend · March 31, 2002
In the story: 6. The emblem outlives the club, 1930–2010.
The City’s woodcut landscape identity, and the earliest capture in which its bottom cartouche carries a roundel.
BEND arched over OREGON above a block-printed view of the river and the mountains, with 1905 either side of a small gold roundel at the foot. This is the mark the City carried on its website through the 2000s.
The roundel in the cartouche is about 15 pixels across in this file, which is a fact about the capture and not about the mark. Nothing thresholds into letters at that size. The drawing inside it is legible only in the 2011 capture of the same mark, where the roundel is 135 pixels across and reads as the bureau’s arched-n roundel. Placing this record with that family is an identification of the mark, not a reading of these letters.
Measured
The bureau roundel, the notched construction. Narrow letters, a notched E and a notched B at the same height, an arched third letter, and rounded corners.
Read at low confidence from 14 px of letter.
Not measured. The roundel in the badge’s bottom cartouche is about 15 px across in the filed capture. Nothing thresholds into letters at that size, and the badge itself is a rectangle rather than a circular device. Excluding a drawing is itself a finding, so it is recorded rather than estimated.
