The column that led to the St Patrick's dance, and to three garbled names.
Looking back twenty-five years, between the high school’s caps and gowns and a new store in Redmond.
It sent the search to the original of March 14, 1919, which is filed: a seven-piece orchestra, a late luncheon, and the programme in full.
The names are where the two diverge. The original at 600 dpi gives Mrs. C. V. Silvis and Marie Linster. This column prints “Mrs. C. W. Silvis” and “Marie Lister”, and the optical text of it offers “Marie I. Lister” again. Three renderings of two names across two papers and one machine, and only the original counts.
