Sixty Elks, twenty-five years on

The Bend Bulletin · June 27, 1944

In the story: 6. The emblem outlives the club, 1930–2010.

A newspaper retrospective column recalling that sixty Elks became charter members of the new Bend lodge, instituted at the Emblem club.

The column that found the night Bend's Elks lodge began.

The item stands first under its heading, ahead of Mayor J. A. Estes and a newly organised boxing commission.

It led to the original of June 27, 1919, which is filed and is better: it gives the dispensation, the election of officers, the charter to be sought at Atlantic City in July, and Toney’s party arriving by auto that afternoon.

The column also says “chapter” where the original says “lodge”. A small thing, and the kind of small thing that accumulates.
