A number and a committee, both of them new to this archive.
Two facts here are not in the archive anywhere else. The first is the number. The 1913 book gives the club a cap of forty members. This is seventy, nine years later, described as members of the club and distinguished in the same sentence from the invited guests. The club had grown past its own founding limit, and the record has carried no figure between the two.
The second is the music committee. After 1913 this archive holds officers — presidents, vice presidents, a secretary-treasurer, directors — but no committee of any kind. Here is one, with a chairman, and it is the committee you would expect a club with a song repertoire to have kept.
Both women receiving are wives of men in the record: Frank Prince, whom the paper elsewhere calls Snark of the Eastern Oregon district of the Order of Hoo-Hoo, and Clark Rhodes. That they are "acting hostesses" at a club event, one of them chairing a club committee, sits alongside the auxiliary formed the previous year and does not resolve into a single tidy arrangement.
From the source
The Emblem club entertained on Wednesday evening with a musicale held at their club home on Broadway avenue. Seventy members of the club and a few invited guests were received by the acting hostesses, Mrs. Frank Prince, chairman of the music committee, and Mrs. Clark Rhodes, and spent the evening in the enjoyment of music and social pleasure of dancing which followed the program. The auditorium was attractively decorated with hanging baskets filled with autumn foliage.
