The step between buying the building and owning it, in one line of a county abstract.
Among two dozen conveyances in one week — lots in Larch, Staats, Kenwood Gardens, Highland, Terrebonne and Redmond, most of them at ten dollars — one line hands over a clubhouse.
In May 1919 the reorganised Emblem Club bought its grounds and building from D. E. Hunter of The Bend Company for $5,300, and the paper named T. A. McCann as trustee. A trustee holds title for somebody else. This is the line where he hands it over.
It is the most precisely described parcel in the club's whole title chain. The 1922 transfer from The Bend Company gives only "part SE ¼ NW ¼, section 32-17-12" — a quarter-quarter section with no boundaries. This one gives a lot, a part-lot and a block in the Bend townsite, which is the description a plat map can be read against.
McCann himself was vice-president of the Shevlin-Hixon Lumber Company and left Bend for Minneapolis the following summer, at a stag dinner the club gave him. The conveyance is ten months before that, for a dollar, and it tidies up the club's ownership of its own house before the man holding the title left the state.
