What the winning entry actually looked like — which the award notice never says.

The award notice a week earlier named the winner and the rule — at least five varieties, judged on artistic arrangement — and said nothing about the flowers. This weekly account supplies them.

Across thirty-five years of this trophy the archive holds only three descriptions of a winning entry: pink hollyhocks in 1920, plants in dulled colours in a concentrated grouping in 1943, and bronze chrysanthemums with brown shamrock in 1947.
