The banquet for the governor was the largest the club had held since the one the hall was built for — and the hall was built the previous September.

The front page of 30 June 1915, and the fullest description of the inside of the clubhouse this archive holds. Speakers at a long table across one end; a second table running down the centre for the members and for the order of the Honey Bee; small tables round the room for everybody else, with parties in from Prineville, Sisters, Tumalo, Deschutes and Klamath Falls.

One clause dates the building. This was “the largest since the dinner for the Portland Ad men for which the club hall was built last September” — the paper putting the hall at September 1914, built for one dinner. The Story has the addition going up over that summer with room for two hundred diners, because the Portland men were coming by special train in September and the club meant to feed all of them. Nine months later the hall was still the measure of what the club could do.

The evening ran to eleven and was started early because some guests had a night train to catch. Speeches from most of the visitors, no set subjects, and the club going through “its full program of songs and yells”. C. S. Hudson was toastmaster and introduced W. C. Wilken first; the report continues on page 3.

The order of the Honey Bee sat with the members, and it is in this archive already: in October 1914 a Portland dinner honoured W. D. Cheney as Taboo of the Bend Emblem Club and the Honey Bees, with a baton and two chime clocks.

… Emblem Party in Evening.

Friday’s entertainment of Governor Withycombe and other visiting state officials was brought to a glowing end in the evening by a banquet given in their honor at the Emblem Club, the largest since the dinner for the Portland Ad men for which the club hall was built last September.

Begun at an early hour on account of the necessity for the departure of some of the guests on the night train, the affair last until 11 o’clock and during its course speeches were heard from most of the visitors while the club went through its full program of songs and yells.

In the banquet room the speakers were seated at a long table across one end while down the center ran another at which sat the members of the Emblem Club and the order of the Honey Bee. At small tables round the room were other guests, including parties from Prineville, Sisters, Tumalo, Deschutes and Klamath Falls.
