A dollar a couple, on a Thursday, for the public library — the first of three times the library turns up in this building.
Four lines in the local column, and the whole of them is set apart below. The hall was five months old.
It is worth keeping because of what follows it. In October 1918 the club gave the library the use of its whole building “until after the war”, and the Ladies’ Library Club called a special meeting to accept. In August 1938, fourteen years after the club had voted to wind itself up, the paper listed where the money for Bend’s new library building came from and named “one of $25 from the Emblem club”.
A dance, a building and a cheque, across twenty-three years, from a club to the same institution.
