The Elks gather at the Emblem Club

A boxed advertisement, set in four sizes, telling every Elk in Bend to be at the Emblem Club on Friday night.
Not a news item but a display advertisement, boxed and ruled, with the lodge’s name set larger than anything else on the page and the club’s address set almost as large. Somebody paid for this.
The club’s name is doing the work of a street address here. The notice is about the Elks; the Emblem Club is where to go — the same use the Bulletin’s weekly meeting calendar made of it in 1917, listing “Bend Rifles, Emblem Club, 7:45 p. m.” beside the lodges.
Sixty Elks were made charter members that night. Twenty-five years later the Bulletin’s retrospective column remembered it, and got one word wrong: it called the new body a chapter where the original says lodge.
