A 1956 photograph catches the emblem’s architectural home midway through the century.
The Bulletin marked the O’Kane Building’s fortieth anniversary with a street photograph and a history of its tenants. Walter R. Hansen had bought the building in 1950; renovations included lowered ceilings and a new roof, with exterior repainting planned.
The image helps follow the building between its 1916 opening and the later preservation record. Its small window details do not resolve the emblem’s letterforms or tell us which panes were original.

STILL ONE OF AREA'S LARGEST — The O'Kane building, erected here just 40 years ago by the late Hugh O'Kane, is still one of the most modern and largest in Central Oregon. Three of the original occupants are still in the building, in the same space occupied when the structure was opened in the fall of 1916. They are the Cashman clothing store, the Magill pharmacy and Dr. G. W. Manning. The building is now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Walter R. Hansen. (Bend Bulletin Photo)
