The cup awarded three months after the end

The Bend Bulletin · August 21, 1939

In the story: 6. The emblem outlives the club, 1930–2010.

A newspaper column headed Bend’s Yesterdays, Fifteen Years Ago, reprinting an August 1924 report naming the winners of the Commercial club trophy and the Emblem club cup.

The club voted to disband in May 1924. Its cup was awarded at the flower show that August.

The same retrospective column, reaching August 1924 from August 1939. The heading is set apart with the item, because the heading is what dates it — and the date is the whole of the point.

Three months earlier the stockholders had voted to wind the club up. The cup went on being awarded, which is what the whole record keeps showing: the trophy, the building and the name all outlived the organisation that made them. “Yesterday” puts the show on 20 August 1924.
