A miniature on a mirror, and a winner for 1937

The cup’s terms for 1938, and the only record we have of who won it in 1937.

Each year the show’s committee gave the Emblem Club cup a new category, and each August the paper printed the new terms beside the previous year’s winners.

The same three sentences carry something the archive cannot reach any other way. Historic Oregon Newspapers holds no 1937 Bend Bulletin at all, so the 1937 result survives only because this 1938 notice mentions it in passing — which is what a retrospective sentence in a contemporary paper is worth.
