Most of what this archive knows about the club is single events, scattered years apart. This is a week, and it has a shape: a dinner every Monday, a bridge party the ladies hold regularly on Thursday afternoons, and in between, when a visiting order needed a room and a meal, forty-eight men at a banquet before an initiation.
The word that keeps recurring in 1920 and 1921 is “regular”. A regular weekly dinner, a regular bridge party, a regular monthly luncheon in November 1920, a regular social meeting in June. Nine years after its founding and three years before it voted to disband, the club was running on a calendar.
And a sixth usage for the membership question, pulling the other way again. Here the men of the club are hosts and the ladies are the hosted — which reads as members and guests, not as two halves of a membership. Set beside March 1920's lady-members and men members, and December 1920's wives who then win the prize among the members, it confirms only that the Bulletin had no settled term.
From the source
Social life at the Emblem club has been active this week. On Monday the men of the club were hosts to the ladies at the regular weekly dinner. On Wednesday evening a banquet was served to a party of 48 men preceding the initiation held by the Order of Hoo-Hoo. Thursday afternoon the ladies of the club enjoyed their regular bridge party.
