Invitations sent out today

The Bend Bulletin · December 28, 1917

In the story: 4. Emblematic measles, 1917–1922.

A short newspaper item headed “To Give Dance”, announcing an informal dance as a preliminary to the reorganization of the Emblem club and the reopening of the club house.

The first notice of the revival, printed the day the invitations went out.

Four sentences, and they open the club's second act. The clubhouse had closed; the dance was the device for getting members back into the room. It was held the following night — the paper of December 29 names the five men who ran it — and six weeks later the club elected the officers who would carry it to 1919.

The phrase worth keeping is “reopening of the club house”. Whatever had happened to the Emblem Club after Cheney left for Seattle, by the end of 1917 its building was shut.
