Witches, paper caps, songs and speeches made a Seattle Ad Club luncheon into an elaborate introduction to Bend.
The Emblem Club was the official host, represented by the Bend Park Company, which arranged and financed the event. The December report looks back at the autumn luncheon and reproduces Seattle press accounts of the festivities.
Reading it takes care, because most of the column is not the Bulletin talking. The page is a compilation of Seattle clippings: the text above the first passage reads “Editorial In Seattle Times”, and the second is introduced with “In a lengthy report of the festivities, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer said, in part”. This archive once stored both halves as a single quotation joined by an ellipsis, which attributed half of it to the wrong paper; the sidecar splits them now and names the P-I as the source of the second.
The headline stack is the one place on the page where the Bulletin is unambiguously speaking in its own voice, so it is the passage. Everything under it is somebody else’s wording, reprinted.
