Number of Inhabitants, Oregon, 1950
U.S. Census Bureau · 1952
In the story: 6. The emblem outlives the club, 1930–2010.
The volume that supplies Bend's counts from 1910 to 1950 — five of the twelve.
Volume I of the 1950 Census of Population. Table 4, “Population of cities of 10,000 or more from earliest census to 1950”, prints Bend's whole series to that date; Table 6 prints the city's row for 1930, 1940 and 1950 outright, and Table 7 repeats 1950 and 1940 among all incorporated places.
The scan's embedded text is poor optical recognition — it renders 5,415 as “6,415” and 10,021 as “10, O21” — so nothing here rests on it. Each figure was reconciled against the printed change and percent-change columns, which work as a checksum: Table 4 gives the 1920 increase as 4,879 at 910.3 percent, and 4,879 divided by 536 is 910.26.
