"A low building among tall pines, cars drawn up on the grass. The Bulletin ran it on 10 May 1919 under a heading naming the place, beside the news that the club had just bought it.",
"The property had been Alexander M. Drake's — a log house he built in 1901 on the bank of the Deschutes, later enlarged. The paper says the grounds were formerly owned by W. D. Cheney of Seattle, the founder of the club, and that he gave his equity in the holdings to the newly organized club. By 1919 the title sat with The Bend Company, and the reorganised club bought it back for $5,300, with T. A. McCann acting as trustee.",
"The club voted to disband five years later. The Masons occupied the building from June 1924 until June 1956. It does not stand today, which makes this halftone worth more than its printing quality suggests: it is a picture of a place the emblem came from.",
"The photograph's own caption survives only as a machine transcription, too damaged to quote. What is below is the heading over the picture and the two clauses of the report that were read against the page — including the price, which the machine transcription gives as $6,300 and the page prints as $5,300."
