"By 1919 the Emblem Club had a closed clubhouse and a debt of $5,300. On the evening of April 24 the matter was settled in a short business session during a dinner dance at the Pilot Butte Inn: T. A. McCann of the Shevlin-Hixon Company and C. S. Hudson of the First National bank each promised to find four other Bend men, the ten of them to take up the debt between them.",

Moore treasurer, and J. P. Keyes, J. C. Rhodes, R. S. Hamilton and Jack Herbert as directors. Keyes and Rhodes had both been on the club's trip to Portland six years earlier.",
"And the paper records what the club was now to be — which is the sentence that separates the two Emblem Clubs. The 1913 body was a publicity club with one officer called the Taboo and an oath about a hundred thousand people. What reopened in 1919 was a social club with a board, a treasurer and a mortgage. A week later it bought the building back."
